Glasgow is the place to be for big events these days, so many major international sports and entertainment events seem to be taking place in the city over the past few years, between the MTV Awards, Sports Personality of the Year, World Track Cycling and of course the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
We always like a return client here and following on from the success of our Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games film ‘Welcome to Glasgow’ many of the same team have been working on the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships that is to take place at the SSE Hydro. The 2015WGC events team approached us to assist with a short film that could be used both in the build up to the event to promote ticket sales and also a ‘VT’ footage during the event itself.
Our brief was fairly straightforward. To shoot an ‘edgy’ film that also fits with the visuals and brand identity for the event that was created by the team at Front Page.
The aim was to present the stylish images and time-lapse of Glasgow at night time to fit with the branding and guidelines and in particular the Clydeside location of the Hydro. This was to be intercut with footage of gymnastics shot in a style and backdrop to not only match the visuals of Glasgow but in context and style that presented the sport in a modern way, far from the traditional often bland images of gymnastics events.
Timescale was tight on this project so the shoot consisted of an evening shooting time-lapse and hyper lapse footage around the city and an afternoon in the venue filming 2 of Scotland’s top gymnasts Kelvin and Shannon who joined us for the day.
For the client we delivered versions for on location usage at the event, social media. YouTube and a 15 sec cut for Instagram.
Thanks to everyone involved in the project, in particular Kelvin and Shannon, Mindy from British Gymnastics and the whole team at 2015 WGC.
